All the woodwork on the boat should be varnished every year to keep it looking smart, though check with the specification of the varnish to see whether it needs to be carried more or less regularly. Brasswork and Chromework should also be kept polished, not only to keep it looking good but also to stop deterioration.

Tips About buy a boat

Sailing equipment is an important part of the purchase of a new or second-hand boat. It is one of those things where you can spend as much money as you wish on equipment for your new cruiser or sailing yacht, so you must give yourself a budget. Obviously, there is a set of essential equipment that all water goers must have, but then there are different sets of equipment required, dependent on whether you will be messing around locally or being more adventurous with long off-shore trips.

Can anyone offer their opinion or experience in cruising either of these places? I understand that both are beautiful but can be pretty expensive. My wife and I are looking for somewhere to sit out a change of seasons between Sept and Jan before heading up the Red Sea in time for a Med spring/summer (during our Indian Ocean crossing from Oz).

Water treatment for water tanks on boats.

Thu, 23 Aug 2007 22:36:24 +0200
A water purification product for water tanks on boats (in fact any "fresh" water) that is totally effective, odourless, tasteless AND beneficial for your well-being. Aqua Salveo water disinfectant was first and foremostly designed to disinfect contaminated and polluted human drinking water. Therefore, two issues were pertinent. Firstly, Aqua Salveo is needed to demonstrate a killing efficiency with regards to bactaria, fungi and possibly viruses and secondly, as the product is intended for people, it needed to be safe, even when used on a regular basis. Aqua Salveo contains no chlorine or bleaches. AQUA SALVEO IS SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION AND IS SAFE TO USE AS DIRECTED.

The Role of a Center Console Boat Cover

By Christopher Miley

Owning a boat can be a great pleasure and a great achievement. Keeping a boat in great shape can be an even greater achievement since it involves a great deal of time, effort and money. Boats require constant attention. So one of the first things you need to consider after you've purchased your boat is protecting it from the onslaughts of nature.

Deciding on the Type of Center Console Boat Cover

The best center console boat cover is one that will ensure total protection from all types of harm that nature can cause to the boat. You will need to consider rain, UV rays, moisture build-up, and dust-dirt-debris floating in the air, in addition to possible thieves. A center console boat cover should ensure that your boat is protected from these events. There are also concerns regarding high variations of temperature, exposure to snow and wind loaded with sand and other particles.

UV ray protection: There is nothing more harmful than the sun beating down mercilessly on your unprotected boat. Continuous exposure to sun will badly affect both the upholstery and the console. This will ensure that the sun's direct rays do not reach the sensitive parts of the boat and cause expensive or irreparable damage.

Rain protection: Rain can be a great enemy of anything remaining stationery and unattended. The modern center console boat covers available on the market today not only protect the boat from rain, they also allow air to circulate on the boat and permit moisture helps to evaporate.

Debris protection: Dust can be another enemy that diminishes the longevity of the boat. If the boat is exposed to dust and pollutants over a long period of time, it can develop mildew and mold and the dirt build-up can be extremely difficult to remove.

Thieves and invaders protection: a snugly-fitting center console boat cover will ensure that your boat is protected to a great extent against thieves. Of course, a cover is not designed to give full protection in this regard, but if fitted well, it can reduce the chance of theft.

It will act as a protector from the vagaries of nature, reduce your maintenance costs and ensure that your boat has a long life.

The sport of Jet Ski Freestyle has seen many additions over the year; including great female freestylers and freestyle on runabout jet skis. In the begnning all jet ski racers had to do freestyle, so we saw the like of Cristy Carlson and others freestyling. In the early 1990s saw Patti Mogan take to the freestyle water against many top riders, then later Rambo Rosie Nuttall became a force in freestyle doing her patent "figure skating" style tricks.

Day sailing yachts are usually small sub-20-feet (6 m) in length. Sometimes called dinghies, they often have a retractable keel, centerboard, or daggerboard. Most day sailing yachts do not have a cabin, as they are designed for hourly or daily use and not for overnight journeys. At best they may have a 'cubby', where the front part of the hull has a raised solid roof to provide a place to store equipment or to provide basic shelter from wind or spray.

Manual vs Electric Windlass For Sailing Yacht?

Mon, 17 Sep 2007 10:37:13 +0200
From all of your experience is it feasible to use a manual windlass or are the 12 volt models the only way to go on a sailing yacht? The cost of the manual models is so much less that i would like to go that way. I have just found out the hard way that pulling up and anchor and chain by hand in a windward anchorage can be difficult and dangerous. Thanks for your thoughts.
