This is not "how much does it cost to cruise." This isn't "How much did you spend in Fiji?" This is, "what do you spend on a monthly or weekly basis in the various ports while cruising?" It doesn't have to be exact, and shouldn't be overblown, but this is intended to buttress the arguments of many destination-based businesses that cruising sailors are good for the local economy. This is a subject near and dear to my heart, because it isn't just Fiji who discounts the cruising sailor as a benefit to the economy, and it's the powerful resorts who get the ear of government in most economies dependent upon the tourist dollar.

I'm looking for one-time, some-time or full-time crew, depending on your schedule and how much fun we have sailing together. Prefer a long-term mate, female, 30's to early 40's, slender, fit and under 5'5" (1.65m).

I bought this solid, roomy 42' ketch a year ago and brought her to a boat yard on the St. Johns River, about 30 miles west of St. Augustine, Florida. Here I've done a substantial refit, replacing/upgrading gear from rigging to thru-hulls, and installing a long list of new equipment from radar to water maker. It has been a challenging project, and fun much of the time. The result is one beautiful, eminently seaworthy cruising sailboat! I'm on the home stretch now. The reason for using an agent is time - we are undertaking a delivery and the quicker we can get through the canal the better. I used Stanley Scott and he is kept updated as to the date and time of our arrival in Colon.

Link] What did you use for communications while sailing? Did you have a satellite phone? We have a laptop, while we are at sea, do you have any suggestions for internet access ( I know this can get vastly expensive, where do you draw the line at spending?). A further simple question. In the the Caribbean, what is the best way to clean fruit & vegetables? I am really looking forward to the markets, but am skeptical about the flies that may (or may not) be crawling over them....

Inflatable boats will have a logo, decal or other branding on them most of the time. If not, they should all have an I.D. plate or patch identifying the boat brand, model, serial number, length, width, weight, capacities, manufacturer contact info and more. This plate is often located on the transom (back) of the boat. Contact the manufacturer using a Supplier's Index to attain information you may be looking for or may require in the future.

This will have to be for fun or adventure for whatever that's worth. I would like someone to act as an assistant helmsman and lookout while I'm asleep while we sail south to Virginia. 22 Jan 2008. Duties are basically to share whatever basic things we have to do, to behave as civilized human beings do, but to try to have a good time. Victualling, which I assume means food, we'll visit the grocery store before we leave Maine and try and split costs.

Very well equipped 51 foot sailboat leaving Florida January 15th for extended cruising in the Caribbean. Plan to spend a month in the Bahamas, a month in the Virgin Islands and two months in the Windward and Leeward Islands. I am looking for one or two people to join me and assist in running the boat. Blue water experience preferred but not required. Would require a minimum of one month commitment but would prefer persons who are available for the full four months. I will pay all boat expenses and provision the boat. You must arrange and pay for your transportation to and from the boat and your expenses on land.

A key feature about all inflatable boats is their incredible stability. Conventional dinghies and small sport boats rock almost uncontrollably whenever anyone moves about. Inflatables, with their buoyancy tubes, sit flat in the water and are almost impossible to flip over.
